The town nearest to the mill is Coreglia Antelminelli. We are 10 km further up into the Appennines. When you book to visit us we shall give you more detailed instructions, but the following outline will get you near.

by air

Most visitors arrive by RyanAir or other airlines to Pisa Airport. Some flights come in to Florence Airport. From the airports your journey can be thought of in three steps:

to Lucca
to Ghivizzano
to Coreglia and up to the mill.

The first two stages can be done by train or by bus, but the third really requires a car, so most people hire a car from the airport.

by train

If you are coming from elsewhere in Italy, or in Europe, by train, you need to arrive first at Lucca, and then take a local train up the Serchio valley towards Aula. The two station nearest to Coreglia is Ghivizzano. See the Italian train timetable at trenitalia.it.

by bus

The route for bus transport is the same: come to Lucca and from there take a bus up the Serchio valley. The local bus service to Coreglia itself is very limited, particularly in school holidays. From Coreglia up towards the mill there is even less service, and that only to Piastroso, our nearest village. The remaining few kilometres are only by foot or by car. Do discuss with us if you are thinking of travelling this way.

by car

From wherever you are coming, first take the motorway to Lucca.

In Lucca, follow signs towards Abetone in order to leave in the right direction.

Once out of Lucca, you travel up the Serchio valley. There are roads on both sides of the river, but you are likely to find yourself on the more main road, with the river on your right. Here are instructions from either side of the river:

Ponte della Maddalena seen from the air

If the river stays on your left after you leave Lucca, you will pass through a series of villages, and you can follow the signs towards Abetone until you get to Ponte della Maddalena (see photo, right). The road sign may say Ponte della Maddalena but it is more commonly called Ponte del Diavolo. It is a spectacular mediaeval bridge which you will see on your left. Carry on until you reach Chifenti, where you turn left towards Aula and Barga. Now you just follow the main road, passing the entrance to Fornoli on your right and after a large roundabout and a bridge over the railway, you go through Calavorno, with a level crossing in the centre, then arrive at Ghivizzano. After Ghivizzano, you come to Piano di Coreglia, where you turn right following the sign to Coreglia Antelminelli (or Coreglia A.).
It is also possible that you will leave Lucca with the river on your left, but inadvertently find yourself crossing the river on the lovely new bridge so that the river is now on your right. Don't panic. You just carry on as if you had been on that bank all along.
If the river lies on your right, pass Diecimo and then through Borgo a Mozzano. Soon after, you will see the Ponte della Maddalena, (photo, right) over on your right hand side. Keep going. You will see a turning to Calavorno across a small bridge, and pass Piano di Gioviano. After a couple of kilometres of slowly rising road with the river valley evident on your right through the trees, you will glimpse a new concrete bridge across the valley. It is sigposted to Coreglia and you turn right onto this bridge, then turn right again when you reach the main road on the other side. You are in Piano di Coreglia, and after about 100m, you turn left up the road to Coreglia Antelminelli.

Now both the altternative routes have converged. Through Coreglia Antelminelli, you follow signs to Piastroso, and go right on through this too, until the end of the public road in order to come to Mulino Carletti.
