'saw used at Carletti',spinning wheel used at Carletti','rake used at Carletti'
some old implements from Carletti including the saw with which planks of chestnut were cut for the house, the spinning wheel on which threads were spun for clothing, and a wooden rake for the fields

We are now planning activities related to this history for those interested in the life of the mugnaio (miller) and his family, or interested in acquiring rural skills. Some of these will give the participants a chance to contribute to the restoration of the mill or the revived specialist agriculture we plan here.

muro in pietra secca
dry stone wall

Topics to be included:

  • dry stone walling - an urgent issue, as there are many retaining walls in need of reinstatement.
  • spinning and weaving - no details yet
  • field skills - in connection with the proposed organic cultivation of specialist crops
  • forestry management The forest has been neglected for 40 years, and much work is needed.

In addition, children will be able to take a little time to go on a guided tour round the buildings and the estate in general, and to learn about how life was lived here as recently as half a century ago.

local history

We can also arrange guided walks with explanation of aspects of the history of the area, from the Romans to the Rissurgimento. (Translation into English will be worked out in due course.)
